Glucose Monitoring

Product Design Study

Have you ever measured your own blood glucose? Probably not, because until now we have associated blood glucose measurement primarily with the treatment of diabetes. That will change in the next few years. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is one of the most promising megatrends in the healthcare sector. Continuous monitoring of blood glucose and insulin levels can help prevent disease, reduce weight, improve athletic performance and generally promote a healthier lifestyle. Up to now, mostly small measuring devices have been offered for invasive glucose monitoring – a sensor measures the blood glucose level subcutaneously. The future, however, is measurement through the skin using laser technology that doesn’t require a prick at all. The client’s fundamental question to Panoorama: How can the medical-technical appearance of the existing device be transformed into an attractive lifestyle product suitable for everyday use that opens up new target groups? After detailed market and design analysis, Panoorama created a two-part design study: for the present and the future. First, Panoorama created a modern re-design for the existing case of the measuring device, which was already equipped with the new laser technology. The classic medical product was transformed into an everyday product for the new, health-conscious target group. In the second step, Panoorama dared to look into the future and developed a medical watch for non-invasive glucose monitoring, which combines all technical components in the smallest possible space and at the same time meets all the requirements for a modern, functional design. The result is a consistent product family that impresses with its clear design language and selected signature colors.
