Schuler Servopress
Industrial Design
In the past, enclosures for production machines were usually motivated solely by their function: they were supposed to provide protection, for example against noise or moving parts. However, it is now becoming increasingly clear that good capital goods design not only reflects high quality and the brand and motivates customers to buy. Companies and their customers also appreciate well-furnished factory buildings that are often shown to visitors on guided tours. It was against this background that the design of an acoustic protective cover for the industrial press manufacturer Schuler was developed. The white case of a servo press reflects the company’s new CI and is made of sandwich foam panels of the kind commonly used in industrial hall construction. This keeps costs manageable for the customer, especially since he can press all the steel parts used with his own machines. Innovative, large panoramic windows, which are glued from the outside as known in the automotive industry, ensure that the case-desing not only perfectly accentuates the customer’s brand and CI, but also his core competence: the pressing process.
